Another Russian general has been sitting half-finished on my desk for a long time. There is no question, these guys dressed pretty smart. Its a good thing that the Russian army in the Napoleonic wars had rather a surplus of generals, because I have rather a good number of them at the moment. It didContinue reading “Another well-dressed man”

Russian jäger colonel
Heres another Russian commander figure, this time a jäger colonel, if I remember correctly he wears the colors of the 26th jäger regiment. The figure himself has a very simple color scheme as you can see; the horse took quite a while to do, and even now Im not entirely pleased with it. It looksContinue reading “Russian jäger colonel”
Russian general
I have started painting a few generals and officer figures, as I only had the bare minimum of what was needed to play. This one is a relatively recent release from Perry. Not entirely happy with my painting of the horse, but it will do.
Valour & Fortitude rules
I dont often write about rules, because I am not really that kind of gamer. I paint the figures and will be happy whenever there is an opportunity to put them on the table – and I will try any rules set at least once! But precisely for that reason, I tend to like simpleContinue reading “Valour & Fortitude rules”
Petrovsk regt WIP
Trying to keep the momentum going with my napoleonic stuff. The first battalion of the Petrovsk regiment is soon to be finished at 20 figures. This regiment served in many of the battles in Finland, and would really have been a good place to start the whole project. They wear a uniform which is similarContinue reading “Petrovsk regt WIP”
Battle for the crossroads
Last night we played another game of Black Powder set in 1808 using the Russian and Swedish armies. This game was not based on any sort of historical event, instead I hastily devised a generic scenario. The idea was that one out three Swedish brigades had captured a strategicly important crossroads, while all three RussianContinue reading “Battle for the crossroads”
A game, sort of…
This weekend I had the opportunity to try out my gaming boards and new terrain pieces with a couple of old friends. We played a bit of Black Powder but only did two rounds or so before we called it a night. Although the gaming didnt really take off, I was very pleased with theContinue reading “A game, sort of…”
More Russians
The latest additions to the 1808 Russians are Grodno hussars and Velikie Luki grenadiers (they will pass for Azov regt as well). These are small units, which will hopefully be enlarged somewhat in the future. Even so, they are a useful addition to the Russians, as they are still slightly outnumbered by their Swedish andContinue reading “More Russians”
Hussars
A recently finished two more badly needed Russian hussars. I started with these many months (even years?) ago. They are a pain because every figure requires a bit of remodeling to fit the period (1808). The base models are by Perry miniatures, but the heads have been replaced with period appropriate Brigade Games heads wearingContinue reading “Hussars”
A crazy idea
For my last set of tank riders, I thought of a crazy idea. One of the officer figures I have for my Soviets is a bonus figure that comes with the Warlord Games army book. The bonus figure holds a flag in one arm. I though this was silly at the time, and just removedContinue reading “A crazy idea”
