The Finnish army of 1808

There it is. Pretty much the whole of the core, Finnish part of the Swedish 1808 army, the 2d-4th brigades (the understrength 1st brigade effectively being included in 2d brigade). Each brigade is around 100 miniatures strong. This roughly corresponds to at least a 20:1 ratio as compared to the historical forces. Below the threeContinue reading “The Finnish army of 1808”

More Finnish conversions – and a milestone reached!

With these figures I have completed the first and most important goal of my 1808 Finnish war project. I have painted all the figures I need for the first three brigades of grey-uniformed Finnish troops, i e the core field army that fought the Russians in Finland. Some basing is still to be done andContinue reading “More Finnish conversions – and a milestone reached!”

(Re)basing artillery

At the moment, I am working hard to finish the Finnish (sic!) part of my Swedish force for 1808. The aim is three small brigades with 3-4 infantry units and one battery in each. The artillery lacks a few figures, one cannon and one limber set, the aim being three two-gun batteries with limbers. TheContinue reading “(Re)basing artillery”

Björneborg regiment WIP

I am slowly working towards expanding my figures for the Björneborg regiment. I already had around 12 (now at 30!) painted figures, including one flag. As this is a regiment which featured in many important battles, both large and small, I will be needing many more, at least two battalions. For the additional figures, IContinue reading “Björneborg regiment WIP”

A small re-start

As I wrote in my last post, I havent been doing much painting lately for various reasons. In the last week though, I have been able to get back into it to some extent. I base-coated around 70 figures, all of them Prussians: a third musketeer battalion and a fusilier battalion, plus some skirmishers andContinue reading “A small re-start”

Three more…

Some more Germans, this time they are the last ones remaining on my desk, so hopefully I will be doing other stuff for a while. These three figures were made from one Foundry figure with a Warlord head, one Perry figure with Warlord head and one Perry figure with its original head still intact. IContinue reading “Three more…”

Battle for the crossroads

Last night we played another game of Black Powder set in 1808 using the Russian and Swedish armies. This game was not based on any sort of historical event, instead I hastily devised a generic scenario. The idea was that one out three Swedish brigades had captured a strategicly important crossroads, while all three RussianContinue reading “Battle for the crossroads”

Another German…

Just one more Foundry German, again this one has a Warlord Games head. These figures are exactly what you want in ww2 Germans for games like CoC or BA; they wear the high boots, but not the gas mask bag on the chest as some other makers versions. This means that they have the lookContinue reading “Another German…”

German officer

Have had very little time over for painting lately, but managed to do this German officer. I painted him in a early war style uniform but a 1943 style of camo helmet cover. I have prepared a few more figures in a similar style and hopefully will be able to finish them in the comingContinue reading “German officer”

A game, sort of…

This weekend I had the opportunity to try out my gaming boards and new terrain pieces with a couple of old friends. We played a bit of Black Powder but only did two rounds or so before we called it a night. Although the gaming didnt really take off, I was very pleased with theContinue reading “A game, sort of…”
