These are some markers for WW2 gaming. Casualty figures are from Great Escape Games, pin markers were made from Warlord Games’ old markers for Bolt Action with some extra bits, mounted on bases from Warbases. Lastly, fire/smoke markers, mainly for marking knocked out tanks or destroyed buildings. All work for both Bolt Action and ChainContinue reading “Game markers”

Basing Red Army tank riders
The old Warlord Games tank rider figures are pretty cool. However, anyone who has tried using them in a game will probably agree that they are not very practical, especially the ones standing up. They just fall over and off the tank all the time. And the whole idea is that they will ride onContinue reading “Basing Red Army tank riders”
Back to Bolt Action
Tonight a game of Bolt Action was played between a panzer platoon with panzer grenadier support and a red army tank platoon with tankodesantniki, set ca 1943. The fight was over three objectives spread out evenly across a wide but quite narrow field of battle. Bolt Action makes for a quick and simple game andContinue reading “Back to Bolt Action”
Pz 4 ausf H
Finished this Panzer IV ausführung H with zimmerit coating (a model typical of the year 1944), to remove at least one item from my queue of basecoated tanks. This one is an old Warlord Games resin kit. It is a nice kit, but the pieces connecting the side skirts to the hull did not fitContinue reading “Pz 4 ausf H”
WG resin Shermans – a challenging build
After my recent post on resin vehicles I lauded Warlord Games in particular for their excellent (but now reduced) range of WW2 resin models. As I really like the models, I have been searching the web for OOP sets. They seem to be going fast: many models that are just 5-10 years old have alreadyContinue reading “WG resin Shermans – a challenging build”
Germans
As I had quite a few of my WW2 German figures out and gathered in one place, I thought I might as well take a few pictures. I have a large number of early war Germans (appropriate for 1939–1941) that are not included here. As you can see there are some Germans in greatcoats, someContinue reading “Germans”
German half-tracks and passengers
I hastily painted my last two SPW armored half-tracks and also painted a few seated grenadiers for them. I have a few more of these passenger figures which I guess may work for marking when the squad is still inside the SPW. Figures are by Warlord Games, vehicles are by Canadian maker die Waffenkammer.
Empress miniatures late war British
I had a slight mishap when doing the shading wash on these. The wash caused an unusual number of cracks, maybe I was careless when applying it. I was a bit disheartened by this and just let them gather dust, half-finished, for a few months. But finally this week I finished the first squad. TheContinue reading “Empress miniatures late war British”
More German armor
I finished a Panzer III Ausführung M and a sdkfz 222 leichter Panzerspåhwagen to add to my German armored collection. Pictures are not that great as I didnt have my usual camera to hand [I have replaced them with better pictures since I wrote this!]. The tank is a resin kit by die Waffenkammer andContinue reading “More German armor”
Panzerknackers
A couple of Germans with bundled charges for tank-hunting. Figures are by Crusader, but with added weapons from Warlord. The figure on the right also has a head from Warlord.
